Karvir #1 with 84.8% polling, Kolhapur best among districts

Kolhapur: Karvir assembly seat topped the turnout table on Wednesday, surging to 84.8% at 10pm, and propelling Kolhapur to the #1 spot among districts with 75.5% polling, slightly higher than 2019 figure of 74.

8%. Apart from Karvir, where late Congress MLA P N Patil's son Rahul is in a head-on clash with Shiv Sena's Chandradip Narke, Kagal and Shirol seats saw high voting. In Kagal, where there's stiff competition between NCP MLA, minister Hasan Mushrif, and NCP (SCP)'s Samarjeetsinh Ghatge, nearly 81.



7% voters showed up to vote. And in Shirol, where Congress's Ganpatrao Patil and Mahayuti-backed Rajendra Patil Yadravkar are locked in combat, the turnout was over 78%. Hatkanangle, a reserved assembly seat, saw 75.

5% polling. In Kolhapur North, an urban constituency, polling rose to 65.5%, while Kolhapur South saw voting drop by around 5 percentage points to 68.

72%. District election officer Amol Yedge said polling was on at 200 polling stations across Kolhapur district even after the 6pm closure time. "After tallying all the figures, we expect total turnout to be 1% to 2% more than the last assembly election," said Yedge.

The administration, however, could not meet the target of 80% turnout. Turnout Jumps in Sangli, Satara & Solapur Sangli district saw an average turnout of 63.1%, led by Palus Kadegaon at 79%.

Congress's Vishwajeet Kadam is in the fray here. In Tasgaon Kavathe Mahankal, where late R R Patil's son Rohit Patil is making his debut, 74.1% turnout was recorded.

Karad South, where ex-CM Prithviraj Chavan is contesting, saw 76.3% polling, the highest in the district. Satara city, however, recorded the least turnout at 58.

5%. Shivendraje Bhosale, a sitting MLA for multiple terms, is contesting here. In Sangola of Solapur district, a triangular fight among Shiv Sena's sitting MLA Shahaji Patil, Shiv Sena's Dipak Patil and Peasants and Workers Party's Babasaheb Deshmukh shot up the turnout to 77.

9%. Barshi came second at 75.5%, followed by Madha with a turnout of 75.

2%. Solapur City, which is entirely urban, saw 56.9% polling.
