Bengaluru: Resolving confusion over the 15% hike in bus fares of all the state-owned transport corporations, including the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), the govt on Saturday announced revised fares on various routes across Karnataka. Despite the cabinet approving the 15% hike a few days ago, the transport department and the minister were tight-lipped about the actual increase in fares between two destinations. However, with the new fares set to be effective from Saturday midnight, the govt notified the revised fares, ending weeklong speculations.

BMTC increased the fare by a minimum of Rs 3 to Rs 5, including GST charges. For KSRTC buses, the fares range from a minimum of Rs 7 to Rs 115 from the existing ones. While the revision was less than Rs 20 to Rs 30 for short-distance trips, it's expensive for long-distance ones.

The lowest hike of bus fare (Rs 7) is between Bengaluru and Ramanagar, and the most expensive one (Rs 115) is between Bengaluru and Bidar. Though the hike was kept uniform with 15% approved by the govt, some trips to Bidar and Vijayapura saw a revision of tariff by only 14%. The revision is applicable to all classes of buses, including express, Rajahamsa, and luxurious Ambari and Airavat fleet of vehicles.

Though the KSRTC published the revised cost of bus fare for express and Rajahamsa category, it will separately announce fare sheets for the luxury segment, said sources. KSRTC will charge only 50% of the adult fare for children in normal category buses, while it will be 75% in luxury vehicles..
