Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra pose happily for the endearing click. Karan Johar had a reunion with his “favourites forever" – Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan at Maddock Films’ 20th anniversary bash in Mumbai last night. Making the most of the nostalgic moment, the filmmaker snapped a cheerful selfie with his “student" and shared it on his Instagram Stories.
The picture captured Karan beaming between Sidharth and Varun, all smiles for the camera. Alongside the photo, he penned a sweet caption that read, “Favourite Forever." Dressed to impress for the star-studded celebration, the trio turned heads in their dapper suits.
Karan and Sidharth twinned in classic all-black ensembles, while Varun stood out in a sharp powder-blue outfit. As the picture made its way online, it sparked a wave of nostalgia among fans — and rightly so. Karan Johar launched both Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra in his 2012 directorial Student of the Year.
Earlier, during his appearance on Komal Nahta’s podcast Game Changers, the director made an intriguing revelation when he asked his crew to treat the then-newcomers as “megastars". Talking about the same, he admitted not having treated them as the debut actors on the film’s sets. Karan said, “I won’t lie.
For me, it was just that I told my team – Siddharth and Varun, these two were my assistants, and I met Alia for the first time when she came from school. And when I launched them, I told everyone on the set, the choreographer, the production, the designer, to treat these three like megastars." When asked about the reason, the director said, “They asked what it meant.
I said, ‘If you give them that confidence, they will face the camera like stars. If you treat them like newcomers, they will give you the performance of newcomers.’ And they performed like stars.
And all of them call me ‘Karna’. They are like my friends. We did a 12-day workshop, and we four were together to get to know each other.
" Student of the Year is a teen sports drama that marked the acting debut of all three leads—Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, and Alia Bhatt. The film proved to be a commercial success, raking in over ₹100 crore at the box office. Its success not only solidified Karan Johar’s knack for launching fresh talent but also catapulted the trio into stardom, setting the stage for their flourishing careers in the industry.
