Pune: A gram sevak, Santosh Sathe (52), arrested in a molestation case, fled from Sassoon General Hospital at 6.34am on Wednesday. Sathe was arrested by the Karad taluka police in Satara district two days ago.

Inspector Sampatrao Raut of the Bund Garden police said Sathe was in police custody . "On Tuesday, he complained of chest pain." The Karad taluka police moved him to Sassoon General Hospital for treatment.

"He was admitted in ward number 18 of the hospital. The Satara police had deputed a constable on guard duty near Sathe to avert any escape," Raut said. Sathe walked out of the ward and fled when the guard went for a washroom break, the Bund Garden police said.

"Sathe was seen walking towards Pune railway station from the hospital," Raut said. "The guard returned but failed to locate Sathe. The guard raised an alarm and reached the Bund Garden police station.

A search was conducted in the area, but Sathe was not traceable," Raut said. Later in the evening, a team of Satara police reached the Bund Garden police station to lodge a formal FIR against Sathe. According to the Satara police, Sathe, through his social media account, came in contact with the woman from his village near Karad a few days ago.

"Earlier, the woman lodged a complaint against Sathe, and Satara police arrested him. He was released on bail. Sathe again visited the woman.

This time, the woman lodged a complaint of molestation, and the police arrested Sathe again," Raut said..
