I wish to express my deep concern over the alarming rise in street crime across Karachi. Mobile snatchings, robberies, and violent incidents—many occurring in broad daylight—have become a daily reality. Yet the authorities have largely ignored public complaints, offering only empty promises.

As a result, the people of Karachi live in fear in their own city. What is most troubling is the boldness of the criminals. Whether you are a student returning from tuition, an office worker heading home, or a family out for the weekend, no one is safe.

Many crimes go unreported due to fear or the lack of confidence in law enforcement, which only emboldens the perpetrators further. While the police have taken steps such as increased patrolling in certain areas, much more needs to be done. Stronger law enforcement, improved surveillance, and quicker response times are essential.

It is also crucial to encourage citizens to report crimes rather than tolerate them. CAT upholds Rs50m penalty on PVMA for anti-competitive practices Karachi is Pakistan’s industrial hub, and its residents have a right to safety and peace. I appeal to the government and law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and effectively before the situation worsens.
