Ludhiana: A fire broke out in a plot at Karabara Road on Saturday where large quantity of scrap was piled up. The reason for the fire is not yet known. Junk and scrap worth lakhs of rupees was gutted.
On Saturday, the firemen received a call about the fire at around 3.30pm and the blaze was brought under control after about two hours. Plot owner Shankar Prasad said he was in his shanty when he heard some voices and he saw flames all around.
“The workers ran away and saved their lives. Scrap mostly consisted of empty packing boxes. People from nearby slums gathered at the site.
” Leading fireman Vijay Kumar said the fire was brought under control within two hours as the blaze had spread widely. The fire was increasing continuously due to junk and waste. There was no loss of life due to the fire, he said, adding that they used four fire tenders in controlling the fire.
Meanwhile, the crowd of onlookers created a tough time for the firemen. The road leading to plot was also narrow and only small fire tenders could enter that lane. The fire officials stationed big fire tender at the main road and refilled the small ones from there.
