JOHN'S 66, WAGNER 45 NEW YORK (AP) — Deivon Smith drained a 3-pointer midway through the second half to start an 18-0 spurt that propelled No. 22 St. John's past Wagner 66-45 on Wednesday night for its first victory as a ranked team in almost 10 years.

RJ Luis Jr. had 13 points, Aaron Scott scored 11 and the 6-foot Smith grabbed a team-high eight rebounds as St. John's (3-0) pulled away down the stretch following a sloppy performance over the first 30 minutes.

Graves also contributed seven rebounds for the 49ers (2-1). Kylan Blackmon shot 3 for 7 (1 for 4 from 3-point range) and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line to add 12 points. Dusan Neskovic finished with 14 points for the Spiders (1-2).

Jonathan Beagle added 10 points and nine rebounds for Richmond. Charlotte took the lead with 8:06 left in the first half and did not relinquish it. Graves led their team in scoring with 12 points in the first half to help put them up 29-19 at the break.

Graves scored a team-high 11 points in the final half. VCU 63, MERRIMACK 42 RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Joe Bamisile scored 20 points as VCU beat Merrimack 63-42 on Wednesday night.

Bamisile added three steals for the Rams (3-0). Phillip Russell shot 5 of 8 from the field, including 3 for 5 from 3-point range, and went 5 for 6 from the line to add 18 points. Adam Clark led the Warriors (1-1) in scoring, finishing with 19 points and five steals.

Sean Trumper added 16 points and two steals for Merrimack. VCU took the lead with 14:37 remaining in the first half and never looked back. The score was 38-17 at halftime, with Russell racking up 12 points.
