A public participation forum held today at Kapkures Ward saw residents engage in a lively discussion regarding the allocation of Sh24 million for the 2025/26 budget. The forum provided a platform for community members to voice their priorities and contribute to the decision-making process. The forum was attended by key county officials, including Catherine Changwony, Chief Officer for ICT and Public Communications, and Dr.
Michael Cheruiyot, Chief Officer for Veterinary Services, Area MCA, Robert Rutto, the ward administrator, and the area chief were also present. Residents identified several key areas for investment, including: Agriculture, Bursary Funds, ICT Hub and empowerment of women, youth, and Persons with Disability (PWDs). During the meeting the residents emphasized the need for support to improve farming practices, access resources, and enhance food security.
A significant portion of the discussion focused on the importance of providing financial assistance to students to ensure access to education. The establishment of an ICT hub was proposed to bridge the digital divide, provide access to technology, and create opportunities for youth. Residents called for initiatives to promote economic empowerment, social inclusion, and address the specific needs of these groups.
“We are committed to ensuring that the budget reflects the priorities of the people,” stated Catherine Changwony, Chief Officer for ICT and Public Communications. “This forum is a crucial step in promoting transparency and accountability in governance.” Dr.
Michael Cheruiyot, Chief Officer for Veterinary Services, highlighted the importance of community input in effective resource allocation. “The contributions from the residents of Kapkures are essential for the development of this ward,” he said. Area MCA, Rutto lauded the active participation of the residents.
“This is a great example of how public participation can shape development at the local level,” said Rutto. The forum is part of an ongoing initiative by the Nakuru County government to enhance public participation in governance and ensure that development projects align with community needs..
