Pune: Industries minister and Shiv Sena member Uday Samant on Friday criticised stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra and termed use of his derogatory language against the Supreme Court and women as an example of his "deformed attitude" and not his creativity. Samant said those who support Kamra share his mentality. The minister was in Pune and held a coordination meeting with Sena party workers from Pune district.
He criticised Kamra after the meeting when he was speaking to reporters. Kamra had claimed he had not mentioned deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde's name following angry reactions from Shiv Sena workers over his video. "I understand stand-up comedians criticising somebody in their act.
I keep meeting such artists and I am in favour of their freedom of expression. However, he (Kamra) used derogatory language under the garb of stand-up comedy ," Samant said. "He used foul language against the Supreme Court, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Anand Mahindra.
It is not creativity but a deformed attitude. Those who support him share his mentality," he added. While addressing the party workers, Samant said all Sena members must back Shinde, since he is the reason for the party's growth in the recent past.
"Out of the total votes the party's candidates get in elections, 25% are due to Shinde. Every party worker will have to provide more strength to him and he will ensure Sena grows across the state. We will have to set aside all our differences within the party to back our deputy CM," he added.
