Kaizer Chiefs boss Nasreddine Nabi is walking on thin ice as AmaKhosi slumped to new lows, losing 2-1 to Golden Arrows, who now lie two points behind the Soweto giants with three games in hand. Back-to-back defeats have onlookers—and surely Chiefs management—questioning Nabi’s effectiveness. With Gaston Sirino and Makabi Lilepo in the starting eleven, talent isn’t the issue; the problem lies within the organisation.
Perhaps it’s the new manager. Ten defeats and eight wins after twenty-three league games paints a grim picture, one where consistency has all but left the frame. It’s a dizzying sight inspired by missed opportunities and the inability to dictate games.
Following Saturday’s defeat, Nabi became the first Kaizer Chiefs manager to lose successive games to Golden Arrows. January’s defeat caused outrage among Chiefs management; last weekend’s result might tip them over the edge. The next few games will decide Nabi’s future in South Africa.
They take on an in-form TS Galaxy next. Nabi after the game The Kaizer Chiefs , humbled and bitter, were visibly distraught after the game. Nabi was rooted to his seat minutes after the final whistle.
“I think the conclusion is we need to score – if you want to win, you need to score. If you control the game – we looked at the statistics after the game, it was all for Kaizer Chiefs,” Nabi said after the game. “And it was not the first game [where that’s the case], majority of the games are like that.
I think the solution is 100 percent clear, maybe the time for us [to change] some things is not now. “But my message [to the fans] is patience. We don’t have any solution now, but stay patient and continue to support the team, but I trust the fans of Kaizer Chiefs, they love the team too much,” he added.
“I want patience, give me patience. I’m very sorry, honestly, I’m very sorry for the result. I am the first man with big frustration.
“But don’t panic please, and don’t attack the players – I offer to attack me now, it’s normal, but don’t attack the players. Protect the team and the players because the season is not finished, and I’m sure we will change the situation.” Who is Kaizer Chiefs’ best player?
