Kaizer Chiefs defender and vice-captain Inacio Miguel has been handed a new non-playing role by coach Nasreddine Nabi.Despite only arriving at Chiefs at the start of the season, Miguel has proven to be a true leader in the current squad. He is second in command after team leader and captain Yusuf Maart, but he has an added responsibility.

And that is to be a mentor to young Amakhosi graduates who are now playing first team football under Nabi. Those include the likes of Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba, Mfundo Vilakazi and Samkelo Zwane among others. And according to Miguel, coach Nabi asked to him to guide these youngsters and shape them to become better.

For me, that’s the most important thing right now. I was once on the other side, I was a young player.“It’s important to be close to these [players] – Vilakazi, Shabalala, Zwane, Duba.

I like them, the way they see they can go longer than where they are.”“That’s the most important thing that the technical team tell me that if I can do that part of the job, I’ll do it for sure. They need us more than I need them.

“It’s very important to be close to them, to be an older brother to them. They’re the future of Kaizer Chiefs. They’re the present and will be the future as well,” concluded Miguel.
