Gilas Pilipinas got a major boost to its front court as big man Kai Sotto has been cleared to play for the national team when it plunges into action in the second window of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers this week. Gilas team manager Richard del Rosario confirmed that the young big man got the green light to rejoin the nationals in time for the November window. Sotto was previously placed in concussion protocol after sustaining an injury in the Koshigoya Alphas' game against Yokohama in the B.

League days ago. His fellow big man AJ Edu , however, remains doubtful as the 6-foot-10 continues his recovery from a knee injury he suffered from a B. League game as well.

"Kai is cleared to play but AJ is still doubtful," del Rosario told GMA News Online. "Final lineup will be determined during the technical meeting the night before the game." Sotto's clearance is a huge welcome for Gilas as he is tipped to form a loaded frontcourt with veterans June Mar Fajardo and Japeth Aguilar to help the squad in its bid to remain undefeated in the qualifying stage.

Gilas will take on New Zealand on Thursday, November 21, before closing out the window against Hong Kong on Sunday both at the Mall of Asia Arena. —JMB, GMA Integrated News.
