Justin Trudeau announced retaliatory 25 percent tariffs on a raft of US imports as relations between Ottawa and Washington sank to a new low on Saturday. The announcement came after Trump ordered a 25 percent tariff on Canadian imports earlier in the day.

Declaring an economic emergency order, Trump also targeted Mexico with the same levies, while imposing duties of 10 percent on all imports from China. Trudeau said Canadians and Americans will suffer as a result of Trump's actions. The United States has confirmed that it intends to impose 25% tariffs on most Canadian goods, with 10% tariffs on energy, starting February 4.
