A new stage adaptation of a popular children's book is coming to Brighton. The Baddies, based on the 2022 story by Sussex's Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, will be at Theatre Royal on June 11 and 12. The show will feature a witch, a troll, and a ghost who try to scare a girl.
The production is directed and choreographed by Katie Beard, with songs by Joe Stilgoe. The cast includes James Stirling as Ghost, Lottie Mae O’Kill as Mama Mouse, Yuki Sutton as Girl, Rosie Meek as Witch and Nic James as Troll. The show is produced by Freckle Productions, known for stage adaptations of other Julia Donaldson books such as Stick Man and Zog and the Flying Doctors.
Jennifer Sutherland from Freckle Productions said: “Freckle are thrilled at the response to The Baddies and are excited to be touring it around the UK in 2025. "It has been amazing working with David Greig and Jackie Crichton to transport The Baddies onto the stage.” The show will also feature set and costume design by Jasmine Swan, lighting design by Simon Hayes, fight direction by Carlotta De Gregori, and puppetry from Edie Edmundsen.
