BRIGHTENED—Mvula flanked by UgandansMalawi National Netball Team shooter Joyce Mvula was at her best when she inspired the Queens to an emphatic 59-45 victory over Uganda in a Vitality Netball Nations Cup 2025 match at Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, the United Kingdom, Sunday.It was a timely response for the Queens, who lost their opening match on Saturday, when they went down 62-36 to hosts England.The Queens returned with renewed vigour, chalking their first victory over Uganda since 2013.All eyes were on Mvula and she did not disappoint, turning most of her chances into baskets.The Leeds Rhinos shooter’s combination with Ethel Ng’ambi was equally impressive as the Prison Queens attacker scored and assisted several times.Another highlight was the performance of improvised goalkeeper Tendai Masamba as she did well in defence, intercepting passes and, at times, winning rebounds.Perhaps the only concern for the Queens was discipline when marking.The Queens had to do it in a tough way as they lost captain Towera Vinkhumbo and later Masamba due to suspensions over fouls.However, the Queens were an improved side and showed that it was possible to rebuild and claim back the continental throne in three years.Uganda, led by shooter Mary Cholhok Nuba, led the first quarter 14-11 but the Queens bounced back to lead 28-25 at half time.From that moment, the Queens were on song, dictating events, with centre court Takondwa Lwazi and wing attack Thandie Galeta pulling the strings.Queens co-coach Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa hailed the players for following instructions and promised to address lapses in discipline at the back.On Saturday, Uganda lost to the Spar Proteas of South Africa 70-45.The Queens are expected to face South Africa at Copper Box Arena in London on Saturday.The top two teams would qualify for the final, with the bottom two battling for bronze at the same venue on Sunday.
