The Summerville Journal Scene has once again been recognized among the best in South Carolina journalism, bringing home 11 South Carolina Press Association awards — including first place in General Excellence for the second consecutive year. The awards span categories ranging from feature writing and photo design to editorial commentary and arts coverage, underscoring the publication’s commitment to high-quality local journalism. “We’re bringing the awards back to Summerville,” said Summerville Communications Inc.

Roberts and his staff took home top honors in General Excellence, the SCPA’s highest distinction for overall quality, first place in Feature Section for its Flowertown Festival coverage and first place in Arts and Entertainment Writing. Columnist Julie Smith won first place in column writing for her popular “Smith Says” series. Veteran sportswriter Roger Lee was recognized with two awards — second place in sports feature photo and third place in spot sports story.

“Roger is the heart of local sports coverage in this community,” Roberts said. “His dedication, consistency and deep knowledge of area athletics make his work essential to our newsroom and our readers.” Other awards include: The accolades highlight the Journal Scene’s ongoing commitment to providing trusted news and community storytelling in the Summerville area.
