A college playoff elimination game is going down Saturday night in Death Valley between No. 11 Alabama and No. 15 LSU , and like any other big-time matchup, quarterback play will make a massive impact.
With the Tide's Jalen Milroe and Tigers' Garrett Nussmeier, it is a matchup of two of the most up-and-down quarterbacks in the SEC. Still, college football analyst Josh Pate is confident in who he'd rather have on his squad. "It should be Jalen Milroe if he's healthy," Pate said of the better quarterback in this matchup.
"I can't trust the consistency of Garrett Nussmeier, (even though) that's not all on him. They ask him (Nussmeier) to drop back like 50 times a game, which is totally unsustainable. "If you could guarantee me 100% of Milroe (being healthy), I'd roll with him every day.
" © Butch Dill-Imagn Images Milroe's health has been a much-discussed topic over the past few weeks, with many recognizing his play on the field looking different. Yet, head coach Kalen DeBoer and Jalen Milroe himself have reiterated that he is not injured, but DeBoer did suggest that he could be dealing with nagging issues. "I'm looking at him, and he can't stretch the ball down the field, but also is not a weapon with his legs," Pate said.
"This makes me scratch my chin and ask the question, 'Did the bye week come at the perfect time? To be determined." That bye week has come and gone, with game week already halfway over. In just three days, Milroe will start his first game inside Tiger Stadium.
Time will only tell whether his body, but maybe more importantly, his mentality, can handle Death Valley. Related: Historic College Football Program Predicted to Get Upset on Saturday.
