Jonesboro Welcomes New Class of Youth City Government

JONESBORO — The City of Jonesboro recently welcomed the Jonesboro Youth City Government Class of 2024-25 with a swearing-in ceremony at Jonesboro City Center.

JONESBORO — The City of Jonesboro recently welcomed the Jonesboro Youth City Government Class of 2024-25 with a swearing-in ceremony at Jonesboro City Center. The new members of the second class of Jonesboro Youth City Government were sworn in Monday, Oct. 14 prior to the Jonesboro City Council’s regular meeting.

A glance at the Jonesboro Youth City Government members: — Mayor Daniela Avitia is a Riverdale High School senior and her focuses will be diversity and inclusion, team building and events. Avitia was a Council member last year. — Mayor Pro Team/Council member Issac Hathaway is a Jonesboro High senior and his focuses will be diversity and inclusion, team building and events.



Hathaway was a Council member last year. — Council member Aliyah Jelli is a Riverdale High senior and her focus will be youth pathways. — Council member Raelin Lopez is a Riverdale High junior and her focus will be health and wellness.

— Council member Zahion Mikell is a Charles Drew High senior and his focus will be communications. Mikell served as youth city manager last year. — Council member Yasden Dutary Gayle is a Jonesboro High freshman and her focus will be health and wellness.

She was a Council member last year. — Council member Keilana Hill-Byrd is a Jonesboro High freshman and her focus will be director of finance. Hill-Byrd was a Council member last year.

— Director of Health and Wellness Syyianna McDowell is a Utopian Academy of the Arts senior. She will oversee the Runsboro program and support health and wellness initiatives. — Director of Events Alison Conteh is a Martha Ellen Stilwell School of the Arts sophomore.

She will produce monthly edutainment events such as Sundown Cinema, Let’s Roll and other events. — Director of Communications Mackenzie Newlove is a home school student. Newlove will serve as JYCG clerk and will focus on media and public relations.

—Alexandrea McCalland and Adorie Murray will both serve as director of service projects. McCalland is a Mundy’s Mill eighth grader and Murray is a home school student. They will produce monthly volunteer service projects.

— Director of Youth Pathways Ava Gabrielle Peterkin is a Martha Ellen Stilwell School of the Arts senior. She will focus on workforce development, job opportunities, scholarships, etc..
