Manchester United are one of the clubs who may be watching Jonathan David’s situation at Lille ahead of the January transfer window. The Reds were linked with an interest in the striker during the summer window. David has caught the eye with his goalscoring record for French side Lille so far this season.
In his eight league outings, he has scored five times. He has also netted three times in six appearances in the Champions League qualifiers and group stage, including the winner in a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid earlier this month. The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning he could be available for a reduced fee in January should he not agree a new deal with the club.
If that’s the case and he doesn’t move in January, he will be available on a free transfer next summer. “We’ll see how that goes.” There has however been no update on a potential extension since. According to the Daily Star, the striker has now taken the decision to run down his contract with the club, putting interested clubs on 'red alert' ahead of the January window.
United are said to have competition from several clubs including Barcelona, Juventus and Inter Milan. Premier League rivals Tottenham and West Ham are also said to have previously tracked the striker. Last season he scored 19 Ligue 1 goals, a tally that was only bettered by Kylian Mbappe.
