Jon Jones makes definitive statement on retirement following KO win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309

This Saturday in the UFC 309 main event, Jon Jones successfully defended his heavyweight title in his controversial comeback against former champion Stipe Miocic. When the UFC 309 main event was announced, Jon Jones received criticism from the UFC fanbase due to the little interest in seeing Stipe Miocic return straight into an undisputed title fight following three years away from the cage. Despite that, anticipation began to build during fight week as things began to get relatively heated between the two heavyweights.

However, during fight week, the 37-year-old champion hinted at the potential of a super-fight against the UFC light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira . This of course didn’t sit well with the fanbase who began to label Jones as a ‘duck’ as he seemingly continued to push away any prospect of facing interim champion, Tom Aspinall .



At the UFC 309 pre-fight press conference, UFC CEO Dana White claimed that the winner’s next fight would have to come against Aspinall, halting any of Jones’ plans of fighting the Brazilian superstar. The consensus greatest fighter of all time went on to make easy work of the 42-year-old Miocic, finishing him with a spinning back-kick to the body in round three. Following his win, Jones sparked some hope into the fanbase, stating that he likely won’t retire and that he will look to begin negotiations with the UFC for a potential title unification fight against Aspinall.
