Coach Cavin Johnson has revealed his biggest mistake while he was in charge of Kaizer Chiefs as interim manager. Johnson first joined Chiefs in 2023 as Head of Academy but he was later asked to step in when Molefi Ntseki was sacked. However, he was also fired at the end of the season following a series of poor results that saw Chiefs finish 10th on the log.
Now, according Johnson, the biggest mistake was to not do a proper analysis of the quality he had at his disposal at Chiefs. He feels had he done that before taking the job, perhaps his stint with Chiefs would have been far different. JOHNSON’S BIGGEST KAIZER CHIEFS MISTAKE REVEALED “I think I did not do a proper analysis of the team at the time,” Johnson told KickOff Magazine Podcast .
“I think I should have gone with a little bit of a better understanding of what quality we were going to work with. “Because training and playing games are two different things, and sometimes as coaches, you must try and get them together and as close as possible then you will see the quality of the player you have. “Fortunately or unfortunately, at Kaizer Chiefs, at the time we were there, the quality that was exposed on the training field and the quality that was exposed in an environment where you have 20 000 people screaming your name, was not the same,” added Johnson.
“And that’s where I think I should have made a better analysis before I even took the job or not took the job...
before I was actually asked to help,” added Johnson. WHAT ELSE DID HE DO WRONG? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab below this article or by emailing [email protected] or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
