John Gilligan steps down from Rangers board as acting chairman exits and a new era begins

Gilligan returned to the frontline when he replaced John Bennett on a temporary basis after the former chairman stepped away due to health reasons. The former Tennent’s boss made clear his return to centre stage would be brief and so it proved. And now the arrival of Fraser Thornton and chief executive Patrick Stewart seek to provide Rangers with stability at the top.



Documents filed at Companies House show his termination from the Ibrox board in effect from January 31. Gilligan received praise from Ibrox supporters for his upfront style and he was received warmly at the club's AGM. Stewart and Thornton are now tasked with introducing a new era.
