John Downing: No ‘Bertie Bowl’ barbs or custard pies in this ‘wake me up when it’s over’ general election campaign

Thus far, this election has a certain “wake me up when it’s over” air about it. It is hard to see the average voter getting unduly enthused. In saying that, I mean no disrespect to the hundreds of professionals and volunteers, of all political parties and none, now doing their best for democracy which is vital to all.

I’m reminded of years long ago working for a local paper which many often told me had “nothing in it”..
