Slater revealed that the Cenation leader felt embarrassed by the move. John Cena is gearing up to challenge the undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41.

The mega show will mark the end of his farewell tour. The Cenation Leader has been involved in some exciting storylines during his illustrious career spanning over two decades. In 2010, Cena, as part of the babyfaces, clashed against The Nexus at a live event.

The heel stable wreaked havoc on the main roster on the days leading up to SummerSlam. They attacked Cena during a cage match. The 16-time world champion digested some brutal strikes before the other good guys came to his rescue.

Heath Slater, an ex-Nexus member, reminisced about the “funny story" during a recent interview with Kenny McIntosh for Inside The Ropes Magazine. As revealed by Slater, the babyfaces used foam pool noodles to save Cena, who might have felt embarrassed by the move. “John Cena was working with somebody.

It was a cage match. We all ran down, jumped the cage, got in, let the guys in and beat the s**t out of Cena. Next thing you know, Santino, Morrison, Kofi, all the babyfaces run out, but they have foam pool noodles.

They’re running down and they’re just in the ring hitting us with them and we’re selling it. But then we see it and we start fighting back," Slater said. The former WWE superstar further revealed that Cena was furious with his teammates and vented out his frustration backstage by destroying a barstool.

“We get in the back and Cena is so mad, he picks up this red stool and overhand throws it on the ground and shatters it," Slater recalled. “And he’s like, ‘Guys, what the f—k? You guys are coming in here while we’re trying to build this group up, make them killers and everything, and you’re fighting with pool noodles?’ He went off on them trying to protect us, to where I just was like Cena is invested a little bit, so that’s kind of cool. But yeah, that was just one time where it was like, we were supposed to be killers," he added.

Cena, who has mostly been a babyface in his WWE career, shockingly turned heel after winning the Men’s Elimination Chamber match last month. The victory also booked his ticket to the upcoming WrestleMania..
