Image via CNN Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid will miss at least another week of basketball due to his recent sinus fracture. According to a new report, Embiid is now in a recovery process. The news confirmed that the Sixers star will be evaluated again in about a week on Tuesday.
However, the head coach recently shared that his injury is not severe. His recovery timeline remains unclear at this moment and leaves NBA fans and the team hoping for a speedy recovery and return. Joel Embiid injury update: the Sixers star has been sidelined for another week Embiid suffered the injury during Philadelphia's 121-107 defeat to the Indiana Pacers.
While trying to grab a rebound, Indiana’s Bennedict Mathurin accidentally struck Embiid in the face. In immediate pain, Embiid collapsed to the floor and had to leave the game shortly after. He did not return to the game which revealed the severity of the injury he sustained.
Now, the latest reports suggest that Embiid will not make his comeback for a while as he is undergoing a recovery process. Recently, Philadelphia 76ers coach Nick Nurse shared his optimism on the recovery assuring fans while giving an update on his health. Nurse said, his recent sinus fracture is "not nearly as severe" as the two previous facial fractures sustained by the 2023 NBA Most Valuable Player in his career.
Ahead of their game against the Hornets, Nurse said, “The only thing that I can compare it to, but I wasn’t here, but he certainly had those other ones that were a lot worse.” He went on to add, “It’s not nearly as severe as those two from what they tell me. So I guess that’s good because those were pretty tough — those two -- and they say it’s not as bad as that.
” Nurse further stated, “Listen, it’s hard enough for him to get himself ready to go.” https://x.com/CourtsideBuzzX/status/1868733844322763107 “The knee after the surgery and all that stuff is enough to focus on.
This isn’t going to help his ability to condition. He’s going to have to recover from some of this stuff — the breathing isn’t going to be easy for a little bit, so obviously it makes it really difficult. .
.. He’s just going to have to deal with it.
Hopefully he’s getting all of these little things out of the way so he can focus on his recovery of the knee and get back out there for a stretch of games.” The Sixers' star player has been injury-driven. Previously, head coach Nick Nurse shared that he is not certain if Embiid would require a protective mask upon his return.
The big man has worn one in the past, during both the 2018 and 2022 playoffs, after recovering from orbital fractures. “I think that’s certainly a possibility. .
.. Nobody’s told me that yet, whether it’s going to be a mask situation for sure,” Nurse said adding, “I think it’s really 50-50.
” Embiid is averaging just 20.3 points per game for the 76ers. The sinus fracture adds yet another injury to the long list of injuries that have affected Embiid throughout his career.
