BUFFALO, N.Y. — Ask a Bills offensive player his thoughts on Joe Brady , and he won’t hesitate to tell you how fond the group is of its offensive coordinator.
“It’s been so much fun to play for him,” Bills tight end Dawson Knox said. “That’s my guy, love that dude,” added Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir. So as the Bills attempt to turn their focus toward next season after another heartbreaking playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, one of the chief reasons for optimism is the return of their OC.
“The way that we can now add to this offense instead of completely putting new stuff in, obviously Joe (Brady) being in his first year as the full time (offensive) coordinator,” Bills quarterback Josh Allen said. “I think we’ve got such a good ground level for what we know we can do well and just building off of that.” The foundation the Bills will look to build off of is a strong one.
In Brady’s first year as the full-time offensive coordinator, the Bills finished as the second-highest scoring team in the league at 30.6 points per game The Bills' "everybody eats" mentality on offense was the driving force behind one of the most efficient attacks in NFL history. Averaged 3 points/drive since 2000: 2007 Patriots (Brady won MVP, had Moss/Welker) 2018 Chiefs (Mahomes won MVP, had Hill/Kelce) 2020 Packers (Rodgers won MVP, had Davante Adams) 2024 @BuffaloBills It’s a top-5 offense this century It was an offense that also put players like Shakir in positions to make plays.
“That’s when I really started to take off is kind of when he took over last year,” Shakir said. “Love the dude. There’s not enough I can say about the leader that he is.
” Added Knox: “Joe’s mentality of everybody eats, the communication he brought to the table, how he encouraged us to talk to him, how he wanted to pick our brains on stuff...
it’s something that’s invaluable." The Bills' offensive success led Brady to getting a trio of head coaching interviews over the past month. Instead, Brady now looks primed to return for another year leading the Bills offense, with his players looking forward to running it back with him as well.
“Every single dude in this locker room loves him, and he’s really just a privilege to play for,” Knox said. Shakir added: “His energy toward us is contagious. He shows up to work every day, just ready to go and excited to be here, and I’m just super excited for the future.
” A future where Brady will hope to be part of a Bills team that finally reaches the ultimate goal..
