President Joe Biden on Tuesday said he was “stupid” not to have added his name to coronavirus pandemic relief checks, which his predecessor-turned-imminent-successor, President-elect Donald Trump , did in 2020. “I signed the American Rescue Plan, the most significant economic recovery package in our history, and also learned something from Donald Trump,” Biden told the Brookings Institution during a speech defending his administration’s economic record. Trump “signed checks for people for 7,400 bucks and I didn’t,” Biden noted.

“Stupid,” the outgoing POTUS then said, pointing to his head. The line drew laughter from the audience. Biden: "I also learned something from Donald Trump.

com/KMIjdaWHpD Trump’s overall handling of the health crisis was widely criticized with his talk of injecting disinfectant , touting of unproven cures and aversions to lockdowns. The pandemic killed more than 1.2 million people in America alone.

But Trump insisted that the stimulus checks that were sent out bore his signature, a branding move that former President Barack Obama repeatedly called out on the campaign trail for Trump’s 2024 rival Kamala Harris . At one rally, Obama urged voters not to be “bamboozled” by it. “Joe Biden sent you a check during the pandemic just like I gave people relief during the Great Recession,” Obama explained.

“The thing is, we didn’t put our name on it because it wasn’t about feeding our egos, it wasn’t about advancing our politics, it was about helping people. That’s the difference. Don’t you give him credit for that.

” Obama’s comments, though, drew criticism from “Late Night” comedian Seth Meyers, among others, who urged Democrats in future to hype their accomplishments more explicitly, like Trump. “OK, but you should have,” said Meyers. “Like, next time, put your name on it.

Seriously, Joe Biden should have sent everyone $1,000 in the mail and called it Biden Bucks. And it’s not an issue of left versus far left. You just have to make people’s lives better in a way that’s direct and easy to understand, and then aggressively take credit for it.
