Excelsior Sports CorrespondentJAMMU, Apr 5: The Jammu and Kashmir Wushu team emerged victorious at the 8th Wushu Federation Cup held in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. The team topped the medal tally in the Sanda event, securing 6 Gold and 8 Bronze medals, a remarkable achievement for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.Gold medals were won by Mohd Ali, Ansa Chisti, Mehreen, Ajmal, Musharaf Qayoom and Amit Kumar, who showcased exceptional skills and determination throughout the championship.
The performance of J&K athletes has been consistently impressive, both in national and international competitions. Recently, they also excelled at the National Games in Uttarakhand, winning 7 medals.The Wushu Association of J&K expressed their congratulations to the medallists and coaches for their outstanding performance.
President Vijay Saraf, Vice President, Ranjit Kalra and General Secretary Bhavneet praised the athletes for their hard work and success.Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo also congratulated the athletes, particularly the newcomers, for their extraordinary performances. He appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, Chief Minister and Sports Minister of J&K to consider the long-standing demand for a Wushu academy, which would help prepare athletes for future international events like the World Championship 2025 and Asian Games 2026.
