JAMESTOWN — The University of Jamestown football team is back in the win column with a 21-13 win over Dakota State University on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium. The win ends an 11-game losing streak for the Jimmies.
ADVERTISEMENT The Jimmies had the season’s best eight seconds by a significant margin in the first quarter of this one. The Jimmies’ Johny Grann executed a perfect tush push to give his team a 7-0 lead with 2:13 to go in the opening quarter. On the Trojans' first play, the snap was fumbled and the Jimmies’ Ezra Belingheri was able to scoop it up and score to give his team a 14-0 lead with 2:05 to go in the opening quarter.
The Jimmies had a chance to push the lead out in the second quarter but an interception by wide receiver Gage Solano opened the door for the Trojans. Two drives later, the Trojans’ AJ Donovan found a wide-open Austin Lake from 36 yards out to cut the deficit in half at 14-7. The Trojans added a field goal in the frame to send the game to the half at 14-10.
In the opening half, the Jimmies ground game led the offense with 129 of the team’s 204 total yards. The Jimmies' defense forced the Trojans to go 1-for-6 on third down and held them to 152 yards of total offense. The Jimmies got the ball to start the second half and drove down the field over four minutes finishing with Zach Hammett running it up the middle from 11 yards out to give them a 21-10 lead.
