Gujar khan - Police in Pind Dadan Khan, Jhelum district, have arrested a woman for lodging a false rape complaint against a local resident, officials confirmed on Friday. According to police sources, the woman, identified as Madeeha, had filed a report in October alleging that her friend’s brother, Sarfraz, along with an unidentified individual, broke into her home and sexually assaulted her. Following a medical examination, police registered a case under Section 375A of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and arrested the accused.

However, during court proceedings, Madeeha retracted her allegations under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), admitting that the incident was based on a false perception and no such crime had occurred. She requested the court to discharge the case. Speaking to The Nation, District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Aziz Sindhu said a case has now been registered against the woman under Section 22 of the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act 2021 and Section 213 of the PPC for providing false information to the police.

He confirmed that the suspect has been taken into custody and an investigation is ongoing. He said such serious cases were being investigated from all possible angles, ensuring that actual victims are delivered justice while those misusing the law for vested interests are held accountable.
