In a major update for aspiring engineering and architecture aspirants, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025 will no longer feature optional questions in Section B. Previously, the option to choose between answering 5 out of 10 questions was introduced as a temporary solution to address the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, following the World Health Organization’s announcement on May 5, 2023, declaring the end of the public health emergency concerning COVID-19, the NTA has decided to revert to the original examination format. In a statement issued on Thursday, the NTA stated, “During the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic, the National Testing Agency (NTA) had implemented an option in Section B of each subject in the JEE (Main) Examination allowing candidates to attempt any 5 (five) questions out of a total of 10 questions since JEE (Main) 2021. This modification was introduced as a temporary measure to accommodate the challenges posed during the pandemic and has been in practice till the year 2024 for JEE (Main) examination.

” “Since the declaration of the UN World Health Organization (WHO) on COVID-19 as an end of Public health emergency on 05 May 2023, it has been decided to discontinue the optional selection of questions. The examination structure would return to its original format, where Section B will contain only 5 (five) questions per subject, and candidates will be required to attempt all 5 (five) questions, without any options for selection in JEE (Main) 2025 for Paper 1 (B.E.

/B. Tech), Paper 2 A (B Arch) and Paper 2 B (B Planning),” the official notification added. The agency also assured candidates that the detailed examination pattern would be outlined in the JEE Main 2025 Information Bulletin.

While specific registration dates for the JEE Main 2025 were not disclosed, the NTA indicated that they would be announced in due course. JEE Main 2025 will continue to be held twice a year, serving as the gateway for admissions to undergraduate engineering, planning, and architecture courses in prestigious institutions like the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and it will also act as the qualifying test for JEE Advanced.
