For the third time in his career, Bahamian professional baseball player Jasrado ‘Jazz’ Chisholm Jr. is going to the playoffs in Major League Baseball (MLB). He reached the postseason with the Miami Marlins in the COVID-19 shortened season of 2020 and again last year.

Both times they were swept — in 2020 by the Chicago Cubs and in 2023 by the Philadelphia Phillies. This year, Chisholm is going to the postseason with the biggest brand in the majors, the New York Yankees. The Yanks clinched a spot on Wednesday night, defeating the Seattle Mariners in 10 innings, 2-1, at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington.

Chisholm finished 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on Wednesday but came back on Thursday and showed the pop that he had in his first few games with the club. Chisholm had four home runs in his first three games with the Yankees, becoming the first player in franchise history to accomplish that feat. On Thursday, Chisholm had a two-run shot for his 23rd home run of the season, and his 10th with the Yankees.

He finished with that two-run home run in four at-bats, but the Yankees fell, 3-2, and finished up the three-game series in Seattle by taking two out of three games. On his home run ball on Thursday, Chisholm turned on a 1-1 pitch, a 94.6 miles per hour (mph) cutter from Mariners’ right-handed starting pitcher Logan Gilbert and lifted it over the right field wall at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

The two-run shot, which also scored Aaron Judge, pulled the Yankees to within, 3-2, in the top of the third inning. The ball travelled 389 feet at a launch angle of 25 degrees and had an exit velocity of 105.7mph.

Chisholm’s 23rd home run pulled the Yankees to within one run on Thursday, but that would be all the scoring for them in the game. The Yankees have an 89-64 win/loss record — four games ahead of the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East Division of MLB. As for Chisholm, he is now batting .

257 on the season with 23 home runs and 68 RBIs (runs batted in) — all career-highs. In 39 games for the Yankees, he is at .280 with 10 home runs and 18 RBIs.

Chisholm also has a career-high 37 stolen bases and 72 runs scored. He is third in the American League and sixth in the majors in stolen bases. The Bahamian star player is enjoying career-high numbers nearly across the board in his fourth full season in the majors and fifth overall and is poised to make a significant contribution to the team in the postseason.

The Yankees move on to face the Oakland Athletics in a three-game series this weekend, starting at 9:40 p.m. tonight at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California.

Following this three-game series, they will end the season at home with three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles and the Pittsburgh Pirates..
