JAYDEN Bryce claimed his sixth Midlands title on Sunday (January 19) as he stopped Team Pumpkin's Luke Collins in the second round of their bout. Starting in the semi finals of the competition, Bryce - a junior champion last year - won every round against a fighter from Stoke-on-Trent, taking victory by unanimous decision and going into the final as the heavy favourite. Speaking before the final, coach Mick Underwood said: "[We are] definitely confident.
"I have watched this lad from Team Pumpkin and I think Jayden will beat him comfortably next Sunday, because Jayden is a very talented lad. I am confident that Jayden will win that bout. "You don't know what will happen.
Illnesses, injuries. You don't know if Jayden will have an injury, or can't box. [But] I've watched this lad box and I think Jayden should have no problems beating him.
" Bryce ultimately made good on his potential, making light work of his opposition, and taking home victory in the second round after two standing counts. Powell and Wise both received byes through the Midlands round of the tournament due to a lack of local competition at their weight. "They are really training well, they’re training virtually every night," said Underwood. "The thing is with the sport, they are at the right weight.
We’ve entered them at the right weight, and they are strong at their weight. I am very confident with them." Schoolboy Max Haycock also fought a supporting bout on the night and won on unanimous decision against Vinnie Lee Reem from BCBA.
In a busy weekend for the club, Wise and Libby Haycock also travelled down to Oxford for a sparring day, and senior fighter Ryan Jones attended an England camp in Sheffield over the weekend..
