TOKYO (ANN/JAPAN TIMES) – Yamato Holdings Co. launched an innovative trial using generative artificial intelligence (AI) to assist foreign visitors with sightseeing information at Haneda Airport recently. The trial features a large digital display with an animated dog character at an airport baggage counter managed by Yamato Transport.

Visitors can communicate with the AI-powered character in English or Chinese, and it responds using a voice interface. The counter, which handles approximately 500 foreign visitors daily, often faces challenges when staff are asked for directions and information. The AI system aims to ease this burden by providing details on airport facilities, train stations, and popular tourist attractions.

Future plans include expanding the system’s capabilities to offer customer services such as assistance in creating delivery slips. This experiment will run until December 8 and represents a significant step towards integrating AI in enhancing the travel experience at major transportation hubs..
