May 8, 1941 - September 12, 2024 SIMPSONVILLE -- Janice Rae Taylor Groomes, 83, of Simpsonville, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 12, 2024. Janice was the daughter of the late Bertha Mary Alice Davis Taylor and Willie Eli Taylor of Winnsboro. She was predeceased by a brother, Jerry Thomas Taylor; and two sisters, Carol Glen Taylor Sanders and Donna Jean Taylor Mayes.
She is survived by a brother, Steven Davis Taylor (Sandi); and a sister, Kathryn "Kit" Taylor Burroughs. Janice is also survived by her son, Marion "Rion" Rudolph Groomes Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth "Beth" Hartstern Groomes; her daughter, Alice Kelly Groomes Dawsey; her son-in-law, Sheldon Gregory Dawsey; six grandchildren, Christian Hart Groomes (Bailey), Taylor Madison Dawsey, Carter Rion Groomes (Kasey), Hunter Sheldon Dawsey, Abigail Elizabeth Groomes Rabon (Andrew) and Reagan Mackenzie Dawsey; her great-grandchild, Jack Rion Groomes; and many nieces, nephews and friends who loved her dearly.
Janice was dedicated to her career as a nurse for over 30 years, sharing her love and compassion for the well-being of everyone in her care. She was a loyal member of First Baptist Church of Orangeburg, where she shared her love for Jesus teaching first-grade Sunday school. Even though she suffered from dementia, she continued to share her light and love of others with those around her.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. (second floor) at Brookwood Church, 580 Brookwood Place Point, Simpsonville.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Stephen Greene Memorial Gardens in Winnsboro.
The family has been deeply touched by the care provided to her from the staff at Harmony at Five Forks community and the staff of the Lutheran Hospice organization.
