Janet Jackson has broken silence after questioning Kamala Harris' race.

Janet Jackson has apologized for falsely claiming Vice President Kamala Harris isn't Black. The 58-year-old, who caught heat for a canceled show earlier this year , made the comments in an interview with The Guardian published Saturday, following Donald Trump also questioning Harris' background . On Sunday, she issued an apology through her representatives.

In the interview, Jackson questioned Harris' racial background when the topic of Harris potentially becoming the first Black woman president arose.



"Well, you know what they supposedly said?" Jackson said. "She's not Black. That's what I heard.

That she's Indian." When informed Harris is both Black and Indian, Jackson insisted: "Her father's White. That's what I was told.

I mean, I haven't watched the news in a few days." Harris' mother was from India and her father was from Jamaica. "I don't know," Jackson said. "Honestly, I don't want to answer that because I really, truthfully, don't know. I think either way it goes is going to be mayhem.

" The singer's comments mirror false claims previously made by Donald Trump , who said Harris "became a Black person" for political reasons. Jackson's apology statement added: "Janet remains committed to fostering unity, inclusion, and understanding and is grateful for the opportunity to clarify her stance. She will continue to use her platform to support leaders who represent diversity and progress.
