Jammu and Kashmir : In India, winter has officially set in. Sonamarg, in Jammu and Kashmir was shrouded in white, after the area received heavy snowfall on Wednesday. Covered in warm clothes, and scarves to protect themselves from the cold, people were seen walking on the snow capped grounds.
Gurez, Karnah, and Pahalgam also received snowfall, stated reports. Heavy snowfall has also caused traffic disruptions on Mughal, Gurez and Sinthan roads. Officials have asked commuters to avoid these roads, until they are cleared, and are considered safe for travel, stated officials, as per local media reports.
Temperatures in Srinagar hit -3 Srinagar city recorded a minimum temperature of minus three degrees celsius, an up from the season's lowest of minus 5.4 degrees that was recorded on December 10, Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted rain at scattered locations in Kashmir, reported PTI.
