You really can't beat a good scone, and while there is a lot of disagreement over how to pronounce the word, many would agree that they're delicious. Light and fluffy, they're a great snack for when hunger hits in the middle of the afternoon. While sweet scones are the default, savoury ones are also great - and not only as a snack, but as an accompaniment to salads, soups and more.

Thankfully, they aren't hard or time-consuming to make either. In fact, according to Jamie Oliver, you can bake a batch of tasty cheese and chive scones in the air fryer in less than 15 minutes. If you've never considered using your air fryer for baking before, then this is a great simple recipe to start with.

In just a few easy steps, you'll have a lovely batch of homemade scones that are packed with flavour. Posting the recipe on his website, Jamie hailed the scones as crisp and golden on the outside, yet soft and fluffy on the inside. He recommended serving them with soup or as part of a Ploughman's lunch, praising how quick and easy they are to throw together.

Here's everything you need to make them. Ingredients 200g self-raising flour, plus extra for dusting One tsp baking powder One tsp English mustard powder Cayenne pepper 75g cold unsalted butter 120g mature Cheddar cheese One bunch of chives (20g) 70ml milk, plus extra for brushing Olive oil 200g light cream cheese 1⁄2 a lemon Optional: extra virgin olive oil Sift the flour into a bowl with the baking and mustard powders, then add a generous pinch each of cayenne pepper and sea salt. Cut the butter into cubes, then use your thumbs and fingertips to rub it into the flour mixture.

Grate in 100g of the cheddar, chop and add the chives, then mix everything together. Make a well in the middle, pour in the milk, and use your hands to create a soft, dry dough, adding a splash of milk if it's too dry. Turn out on to a flour-dusted surface and work the dough into a 3cm-thick round, then cut into six wedges.

Brush with milk, grate over the remaining cheese, and sprinkle with some cayenne. Rub some olive oil on to the air fryer shelf and preheat to 180C for two minutes. Place in the scones, evenly spaced, and cook for 12 minutes until golden.

For the spread, mix the cream cheese with some lemon zest, black pepper and olive oil. Serve with the warm scones..
