Jamie Oliver swears one ingredient is a "game changer" for making a tender and creamy stroganoff. He admitted the venison and wild mushroom dish was one of his "very favourites", but said the secret ingredient could be added to any version of the dish. It's probably already lying in your cupboard, or rather the alcohol cupboard, because he adds one of the nation's favourite tipples: gin.

Jamie said the "deliciously tender venison and nutty mushrooms are cooked in a creamy paprika and gin sauce," but warned cooks to "stand well back and watch your eyebrows!". The naked chef revealed the trick while filming his television show, Friday Night Feasts, which he hosted alongside Jimmy Doherty. He started by softening sliced onion and garlic in a pan, before adding sweet paprika and mushrooms to cook for about five minutes.

After it has all cooked down, the seasoned venison strips go in the pan to cook for about a minute, and that is when it's time to add a healthy splash of gin , while watching your eyebrows of course. After the fire hazard is over, some butter, lemon zest and juice should be added, and then some crème fraîche or soured cream shortly after to give that classic creamy consistency. To finish he sprinkled it with parsley, sliced gherkins and a touch more paprika, as well as any remaining cream.

He also shared how to make chicken juicier and tender with one ingredient, or the posh baked beans on a budget , and the trick that makes roast potatoes crispier than ever..
