Jamie Oliver left fans fuming on Monday night (March 31) as Channel 4 repeated his show Jamie's Air Fryer Meals. The evening programme, which first aired last year, sees the chef create dishes in the countertop appliance but his hot take on some traditional fare, including roast chicken and baked alaska, left some viewers less than impressed. As the hour-long special hit the airwaves, fans flooded to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share their frustrations online.
Taking umbrage at his serving methods, one wrote: "Can @Argos_Online send a dinner set to Jamie Oliver please. The poor lad's eating off a reclaimed floor board. It can't be healthy all that old creosote soaking into his air fried chicken.
" Another was less than amused by the mess he was making, commenting: "Easy knowing Jamie Oliver doesn’t have to clean these air fryers afterwards. Straight into the bin #Jamiesairfryermeals." A third took offence at the way he described the finished food as "amazing," writing: "Watching Jamie Oliver is like watching a 2nd hand car salesman with a frying pan.
Everything’s amazing. No it isn’t!" The two-part show proved incredibly divisive on it's first airing . Due to the sponsorhip by Tefal, Channel 4 were forced to issue a note to viewers at the start of the first episode stating: "This programme contains product placement".
The synopsis for the series teased: "[Jamie] shows us how to elevate our culinary credentials with the latest kitchen craze, as he brings us some delicious dishes and innovative ways to make the most of our air fryers." Despite the criticism, the broadcaster clearly felt it was worth giving it a second outing in a prime tome slot. Episode one featured him using an air fryer to make Prosciutto Baked Fish, Cheddar Cheese & Chive Scones, Kerala-style Roast Chicken, Gnarly Pork & Pineapple Noodles and Peach Alaska.
Although it is being broadcast, both episodes of the show are also available on the Channel 4 player. Episode two sees him use the trendy appliance to cook chicken and mushroom pastry parcels, charred veg and fluffy flatbread, herb-stuffed salmon, steamy chicken in a bag and a lusciously layered choccy burnt cheesecake. The show also features TikTok sensation and chef Poppy O'Toole who also released an air fryer cookbook.
