, 75, of Lake Charles passed away at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec.



8, 2024 in his residence. He was a beloved educator, coach, and community leader Mr. Pitre was born on June 20, 1949 in Eunice where he grew up and developed a love for sports that would shape his lifelong legacy.

A standout athlete, Mr. Pitre graduated from Eunice High School, where he was a star on the basketball court. His excellence in sports was recognized when he was inducted into the Eunice High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.

Following high school, he earned a basketball scholarship to McNeese State University where he earned his master’s degree in education while also coaching and teaching at McNeese and his alma mater, Eunice High School. He later returned to McNeese to become a specialist and then became the Intramural Director and the Director of Recreational Complex and also taught driver’s education. Mr.

Pitre held several leadership positions in NIRSA (National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association) and LACIRSA (Louisiana Association of College & University Recreation). His service to the community was also reflected in his tenure as past president of the Calcasieu Parish School Board, where he played a pivotal role in local education for several years. Throughout his life, Mr.

Pitre was a dedicated father, coaching his three boys in their little league sports and fostering their love of athletics. His passion for sports, both as a player and as a fan, was evident in every aspect of his life. His legacy as a coach, educator, and community leader will live on for generations.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Jean Hartwell Pitre; sons, William “Billy” F. Pitre of Lake Charles, Steven J. Pitre of Lake Charles, and John B.

Pitre (Kelli) of San Antonio; sisters, Brenda Torrence (Gene) and Melinda Boenig (Kenneth) of Eunice, and his beloved grandchildren who affectionately called him “Poppi,” Calie P. Bass (Cameron), and Myles, Mason, and James Pitre. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorine and Frank Pitre and an aunt and uncle, Bill and Burk Manuel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec.

13, 2024 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 5 p.

m. until 8 p.m.

with a rosary being recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9 a.

m. until the start of the service. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Harbor Hospice, nurse Renee, aids Desire and Laquinta, and a special thank you to his sitter, Jaime Monticello.
