In a plot twist that even the most seasoned directors couldn’t foresee, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn recently stumbled upon a 1988 Bollywood gem that brought together DC and Marvel’s biggest superheroes long before Hollywood ever dreamed of it. And who orchestrated this epic crossover? None other than Govinda, Bollywood’s ultimate multi-tasker, and Kimi Katkar in Dariya Dil. Move over, multiverse—Bollywood did it first, and with a dance number, no less.

Taking to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Gunn hilariously shared a clip from the song Tu Mera Superman, where Govinda dons a bright blue Superman suit, and Kimi Katkar, somewhat confusingly, appears as a Spider-Woman (though Marvel purists may raise an eyebrow). The clip features the two superheroes—who, instead of saving the world, seem far more interested in saving each other—from heartbreak, as they prance through a park in true Bollywood fashion. Gunn, clearly amused, captioned the clip with a simple but legendary “DC 🤝 Marvel,” effectively cementing Govinda’s place as the true pioneer of the superhero crossover.

In the now-viral clip, Govinda’s Superman is seen socking a villain so hard he flies into the clouds—because, of course, Bollywood. Kimi’s Spider-Woman, meanwhile, is swept off her feet (literally), before the two superheroes break into an impromptu dance number, because what better way to celebrate vanquishing your enemies than with a choreographed routine in a park? Forget about flying across Metropolis or swinging through New York; these two had something far more powerful—Bollywood romance. Gunn, who recently wrapped filming his own highly anticipated Superman: Legacy movie for the DC Universe, likely didn’t see this coming..
