Eyeing his maiden IPL contract, James Anderson registered for the IPL 2025 mega-auction and the right-arm pacer's name is likely to be shortlisted for the two-day event. Anderson, who hasn't played a T20 since 2014, last registered for the auction in 2012. He went unsold in the IPL 2011 and 2012 auctions.
Rejected twice by the IPL franchises, the England legend decided against entering the auction for 12 years. Anderson, who retired from international cricket in July, has registered with a base price of Rs 1.25 crore, is eyeing his maiden IPL deal aged 43.
A couple of weeks before the IPL 2025 mega-auction, Michael Vaughan made a bold prediction about Anderson and predicted that Chennai Super Kings would sign him. Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast, Vaughan said: "You mention James Anderson, I wouldn't be surprised if Jimmy Anderson ends up at Chennai Super Kings. You heard it here first.
They are a team that like someone who can swing it in the first few overs. They had a swinger, be it Shardul Thakur. It would not surprise me if Jimmy Anderson ends up at Chennai.
" CSK have often signed senior players during auctions and it will be interesting to see if they hand a contract to Anderson. Should Anderson land an IPL deal and make his IPL debut in 2025, he will become the oldest debutant in the history of the tournament. The record presently belongs to Pravin Tambe, who made his IPL debut at the age of 41.
He played his first IPL game for Rajasthan Royals in 2013. Pravin made his domestic cricket debut after playing IPL. The IPL 2205 mega-auction is scheduled to take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25.
It will be the second time when the event will take place outside of India. The IPL 2024 mini-auction was held in Dubai in December 2023. Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from Cricket, Sports and around the world.
