In what may end up being one of the more controversial fights of his career, YouTuber turned-boxer Jake Paul, beat 58-year-old boxing legend Mike Tyson via unanimous decision on Friday. While the fight didn't seem close, Tyson, while in great shape for age, could not keep up with the 27-year-old, and the judges noticed it as well. The judges gave the advantage to Paul, scoring the bout 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73.
Although social media didn't love what they saw Friday night, Paul is already looking ahead to his next opponents. However, he doesn't want this next fight to be boxing, but is instead wanting to try his luck in the octagon. Following his win, Paul took to social media to challenge former featherweight lightweight UFC champion Conor McGregor in a post that has since amassed over seven million views.
"Dear Conor, I know you told my team you would fight me at 170lbs," Paul wrote . "That’s never happening. But let’s run it in MMA.
No weight class. Just like how it used to be done. But you won’t.
" Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images While millions of people have seen the most, the person that it was meant for (McGregor) has yet to respond to the challenge. Paul is clearly trying to appeal a bit to McGregor, who lost his lone boxing match in 2017 against Floyd Mayweather Jr., by offering a chance to step into his world.
The only problem is that UFC President Dana White said back in September that he expects McGregor to return to the octagon in 2025. McGregor's last fight came in 2021 when he lost via a first-round technical knockout against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, which saw him break his leg. He was expected to return in 2024 against Michael Chandler for UCF 303, but the fight was called off after he broke his toe during training.
At 36-years-old, McGregor may want to make one final run at a UFC title before boxing a YouTuber. However, only time will tell. Related: Mike Tyson, Jake Paul Immediately ‘Suspended’ Following Fight on Friday.
