Surat: A young Jain muni will undertake Shatavdhan , a remarkable mental feat of demonstrating exceptional memory and concentration skills, at an event on Sunday. Muni Divyaprasannakirtisagarji , 24, aims to achieve the status of ‘Shatavadhani' by displaying his ability to memorise and recall 100 different points, questions, and corresponding answers in various sequences. This attempt comes merely two-and-a-half years after his initiation into monkhood.

"The unique skill of Shatavdhani is a hallmark of ancient Indian Jain traditions, enabling a person to recall around 100 questions and their answers with concentration and memory power. This extraordinary demonstration is scheduled to be held on Sunday at Bhagwan Shri Mahavir University in Vesu," said one of the organising team members. The young monk studies under Muni Shri Bhavyakirtisagarji, who successfully completed Shatavdhan on seven occasions.

Muni Shri Bhavyakirtisagarji said, "This skill involves listening to or reading and recalling them in sequential or reverse order with the aid of meditation, focus, and memory. Shatavadhan is not just based on memory but also relies heavily on concentration, meditation, and spiritual practice." "It exemplifies the richness of Indian culture and symbolises the blessings of Goddess Saraswati and intense penance.

While an average person might remember two, five, 10, or 20 points, a Jain monk, through enhanced concentration and focus, can memorise 100 items as a Shatavadhani or even 1,000 items as a Sahasravadhani," he said. Shatavdhan comes from two words: shata, meaning ‘hundred', and Avadhan, which means concentration or attention..
