Cornerback is still a position that the Jacksonville Jaguars could explore adding to in the NFL draft, and if so, ESPN recently highlighted one Day 3 "sleeper" at the position. The addition of Jourdan Lewis in free agency helped raise the floor of the cornerback position for the Jaguars and provide some needed stability. With Lewis now at the nickel, that allows Jarrian Jones to move to the boundary opposite of Tyson Campbell, which is where the biggest need at this position was for the Jaguars.
However, this signing also doesn't mean that there isn't a need at cornerback anymore either. Jones did play a significant amount of snaps on the boundary at Florida State, but the prudent move would be having him compete for that starting spot--not to mention that bolstering the overall depth should be on the to-do list as well.So this very well could be an early-round pick for the Jaguars, especially with having four picks in the top 100.
But if GM James Gladstone wants to go in a different direction on Days 1 and 2, or he wants to double-dip at cornerback, a Day 3 name to watch is UT-San Antonio's Zah Frazier. In ESPN's latest draft intel article, draft analysts Field Yates, Jordan Reid, and Matt Miller each highlighted one Day 3 sleeper whom they really like, and it was Reid who selected Frazier."His combination of height, speed and ball skills are among the best of the late-round options in this class," wrote Reid.
"At 6-foot-3, 186 pounds, he ran a 4.36 40 and had impressive jumps (361⁄2 inches on vertical and 10-feet-6-inches on broad). He tied for second in the FBS with six interceptions last season, and his reactionary skills complement his size.
"At 6-3, Frazier has that length at the position that we know GM Chris Ballard covets, and he was also one of the standouts at the NFL combine.Frazier is still a relatively inexperienced player with 596 snaps over the last three seasons, 498 of which came in 2024. He would grade out really well against the run by PFF's metrics, and allowed a completion rate of 46% on 39 targets.
Frazier also had terrific ball production with six interceptions and five pass breakups.Of note, Reid also mentioned that Frazier will be best in a more zone-heavy defensive scheme. We don't know exactly what we are going to see from Anthony Campanile, but with adaptability being an important element to his scheme.
So we could see a good mixture of man and zone throughout the season, just depending on what the opponent is doing and the skill sets that Campanile has available to him on the roster. This article originally appeared on Jaguars Wire: Jaguars NFL draft: CB Zah Frazier named Day 3 'sleeper' by ESPN.
