The Jacksonville Jaguars traded down from the fifth overall pick in Bill Barnwell's annual NFL mock draft with all trades. Each year, Barnwell puts together draft day trade packages for each team that could entice them to move up or down. If applicable, he takes into account the GM's history when it comes to trades on draft day, and Barnwell also used the Jimmy Johnson trade value chart to create trades that were fair for all teams.
Since this mock draft is all about trades and what teams might get in return for moving around, Barnwell isn't projecting where any players might end up. It's trades only. So, for the Jaguars who traded down, how far did they go down and what did they get in return? The Jaguars ended up moving down to pick No.
9 in Barnwell's mock, trading places with the New Orleans Saints. In return, the Jaguars would get the ninth overall pick, pick No. 40 in the second round, and a 2026 fifth-round pick.
Along with giving the Saints the fifth pick, the Jaguars would also part with pick 107 in the fourth round. "They've been commonly linked to defensive tackle Mason Graham (Michigan) here, and that makes sense given their interior pass-rush struggles last season," wrote Barnwell. "I just get the feeling first-year head coach Liam Coen will help out Trevor Lawrence with his first-round pick.
"With 10 picks entering this year's draft and free agency helping to raise the floor of the roster, as GM James Gladstone described, the Jaguars have a lot of flexibility in this year's draft and can navigate the board as needed.A trade-down scenario does seem to be in play for the Jaguars. Two instances that could spark a move may include if Mason Graham is already off the board when the Jaguars are picking, or if they'd like to address another position like the offensive line or wide receiver.
Value-wise, given how the Jaguars' big board could fall, given the depth of those position groups, it may make more sense to trade down, get additional draft capital, and then still add to one of those positions rather than using the fifth overall pick. This article originally appeared on Jaguars Wire: NFL draft: Jaguars move down in all trades mock.
