Jacob Ramsey gives injury update after a season of struggles

Jacob Ramsey has made an impressive start to the season after fully recovering from the injuries which blighted his last season

Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey believes he has put his injury problems behind him after enduring a stop-start campaign last term. The midfielder only started eight Premier League games due to injury after he fractured a metatarsal last summer while representing England at the European Under-21 Championships. Villa chose to end Ramsey's season early after he suffered another foot injury at the start of March in Villa's 3-2 win at Luton Town, which allowed him to recover properly for pre-season.

Ramsey built up his fitness on Villa's tour of the USA and came off the bench in their first three Premier League games, grabbing assists in each of the away wins at West Ham and Leicester City. Villa received approaches for Ramsey in the summer, but Emery made it clear he was not for sale, and now the 23-year-old is determined to make up for lost time. "My feet are good. I was a bit behind [in pre-season] but I trained, in America, but I’ve caught up and I’m buzzing. "It’s part of football.

Last season, it wasn’t meant to be. The manager said a few nice things but injuries kept me out for a long time. It was my fifth metatarsal twice and my fourth once.

It was something I couldn’t control. Stress fractures. All healed now.

"I felt last season if I didn’t have the injuries I could have done big things following on from the [England] Under-21s. I was in really good form. I want to step up again and increase my level.

It’s going to take time. It was my first start since February. "I actually feel a lot better this season than I did when I came back last season.

A different mindset, a different mentality. "A better physical shape. I’ve had the summer to get myself right.

I’m feeling good." What do you make of Ramsey's comments?
