The Northern Victoria MP is currently serving as the attorney-general and emergency services minister. She will replace Tim Pallas, who resigned this week after a decade in the job.

Victoria Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes defends public drunkenness law reform on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. (9News) Pallas, who said he was the longest-serving standalone state treasurer, having stepped into the job in 2014 when Daniel Andrews became premier, said it was a "great honour and privilege" to serve the people of Victoria.
