The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued an alert for a high rip current risk effective from this afternoon through late Sunday night for Northeast Florida beaches, including Coastal Nassau, Coastal Duval, Coastal St. Johns, and Coastal Flagler. Beachgoers are cautioned against dangerous rip currents and rough surf, which could pose serious hazards to even the strongest of swimmers, as detailed by the NWS.

The advisory warns that "Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water." This risk coincides with a mostly sunny forecast today, sporting a high near 84 and breezy conditions. However, the outlook for the following days includes showers and possibly a thunderstorm with a 90% chance of precipitation on Sunday, as well as continued windy conditions.

Residents planning to enjoy the coastline, especially during these windy periods, should be aware of the elevated risk, according to the National Weather Service.Precautions are recommended for all individuals considering a dip in the Atlantic's pull. The National Weather Service advises to "Swim near a lifeguard.

If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline.

If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help."Alongside the rip current statement, the weather this week seems to be a mixed bag, with temperatures dropping to a low of around 46 by Monday night. Following the weekend's tumult, Monday's forecast promises a sunny respite with a high near 69, breezy conditions, and a clearer evening.
